Somalia to join child rights pact, only U.S. outside
Somalia has announced it plans to ratify a global treaty aimed at protecting children, leaving the United States as the only country outside the pact, UNICEF said Friday.
Somalia and the United States have long been the last hold-outs to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly exactly 20 years ago. The most widely ratified international human rights treaty, it declares that those under 18 years old must be protected from violence, exploitation, discrimination and neglect.

Wow. Just…wow.
Good morning Bumz. I slept in for the first time in a long time and then had coffee and read the paper with Mr. Gnome.
I guess I need to go read the article to see why the U.S. has not ratified the treaty. One hopes that this administration will change that. Especially after that video of the 60 minute play push from the NFL with Obama. That’s a sweet little clip. Makes me proud of my country all over again.
Speaking of which, I just got a note from Cactus Pete that Mary Landrieu has decided to vote YES on cloture tonight!
Ahhh. Here is the answer. The treaty is in line for consideration:
“as quickly as possible” ?? uhh sure. Have they considered the Bill of Rights?
Oooh! This pisses me off!
The Repukes and a lot of Dems had no trouble authorizing a useless war and then rebuilding of a foreign country, but can we spend money on our own country and our own wellbeing? Nor siree! That is wasteful!
U.S Fears Iraqis will not keep up Rebuilt Projects. Duh!

I don’t know whether that includes Lieberfuck or not. Update: According to TPM, he has indicated he will vote to allow debate.
OK back to cleaning. I must be getting sick. I did the kitchen last night and now I am vacuuming and mopping the floors, and no one is even scheduled to come over!
(I even cleaned up the floor in my office, which was a pig sty. I crawled under the desks and tables and pulled out all the bones and papers and odd things that the dogs had squirreled away 
)
We’re here! The little guy rode with me half the way, and pointed out all the scenic things along the way. Like the train tracks, the bridges and overpasses, and the tank yard outside Meridian. Everything was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen! He also counted every exit to make sure I didn’t miss the one we were supposed to take.

Off to get the hubby! The boys will live to see Thanksgiving! It’s been touch and go all day because as fast as I clean, they mess it back up.
Did someone hijack Gnome’s log-in name? Someone who likes to clean the house perhaps?

You can imagine how dirty the lower portions of my walls get with teh four footed monsters you saw yesterday.

Good video clip – looked like lots of fun. And isn’t it about damn time there was some sober fun at the W.H. on that absolutely beautiful lawn that I’m sure we pay a herd of gardeners a pretty penny or so!
I thought the FILIBUSTER VOTE TO END THE FILIBUSTER THAT THE repugnants ARE PULLING AGAINST HEALTH CARE INSURANCE REFORM was scheduled at 8 p.m. EST – It’s coming up on 4 here PST – what gives? I turned to CSPAN but didn’t stay long since that ass Grassley was winding against – did Harry make them talk? Or do they have to talk a little bit before a vote to end the stoopid? Like right now – he’s quoting President Jackson and saying it is our (Senator) obligation and duty to listen to the common sense of the American people –
– excuse me? Why didn’t that same philosophy hold for this occupations we are in??? And he says that a large majority of Americans are against this bill – what an ass. And that goes for all his repugnant co-workers too.
