WTF?
Hi honeys! I’m home! Bit of a contentious meeting. The Baptist Church thought we should grant all their variance requests. We gave them two, but let the height restriction stand. I’m am now worried. It has started to rain and there is lightening in the distance . . .
@ Texas Betsy:
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer?
No tall baptists allowed in Gnomeville anymore? Tall = anyone taller than the average Gnome?
Hmmm…Oprah’s had some pretty whacked out people on her show over the years, and she’s been at this a long, long time. Is it merely a coinky-dink that the Wasilla Hillbilly sent her over the edge?? It would be irresponsible not to speculate!
@ gnome de plume:
The Baptists got pissy with you? Lemme guess-they want to build some big-assed megachurch with a steeple tall enough to require lights that will warn off low-flying planes. Did you remind them that the meek shall inherit the Earth, and that “wherever two or more are gathered in my name, there shall I be also”? So…they don’t really need a big church building/daycare/youth center/giant parking lot. Problem solved! I wouldn’t worry too much about them calling down the wrath of the heavens upon you. Like their hero Dubya, they’re all hat, no cattle
@ Texas Betsy:
Silly Betsy
The church is landlocked in an old part of town. They want to maximize the area they have, so they want to build as tall as they can. Available parking would limit them to three stories, but the zoning height allows for only two. It is in an area that is organizing for historic designation. All the neighbors are against exceeding the height.
The church went about it badly. They should have reached out and worked with their neighbors. Instead the minister decided God would help get what they want/need. (According to backstory and other information of which I am officially not privy.) God and my board decided they only need two stories.
Nothing in Gnomeville can be bigger than the water park.
@ Texas Betsy:
Well, actually, if you go by English Common Law, nothing in Gnomeville can be taller than a sunflower (that’s a pretty generous 2 stories for anything other than a basketball playing gnome).
@ gnome de plume:
Never fear. Zeus still holds the patents on all the directional lightning tech, and he’s a stubborn old fool.
Texas Betsy wrote:
You know, I think that is probably true! I wasn’t here when they allowed that tower to be built.
@ gnome de plume:
Of course they thought that God would help them get what they want. They have no comprehension that some of the board members may talk to God, too.
Surprised they didn’t want a 6-story parking garage to handle their growing flock. (along with a steeple on top)
MM got the description of the churches around here on target.
In the little, dinky town my mom lives is there are no less than 5 churches, the biggest of which is the Baptist Church. They were in a smaller building on the same property till a couple years ago, when they decided they needed a much bigger building. They didn’t want to move from their very desirable location in the middle of town, but the lot was not conducive to expansion, bound by a road on three sides and a railroad on the fourth. They designed a monstrosity that encompased the old building and, quite literally, runs from lot line to lot line. The front steps are only a few feet from the curb. There’s very little parking, so congregants must get there early or park up and down the main drag of town. Since every store is closed on Sunday this is not a huge problem. Every time we drive past it (which is any time we go anywhere!) she gripes about how awful it looks, and that it simply has to be a zoning violation. Problem is, most of the town council and the mayor are all members, so…
And of course, the churches pay no taxes.
@ Texas Betsy:
Of course, taxes are only for sinners.
Good night bumz.
Gnome, does this bed meet with your approval?
And the politician lady from previous, the one I couldn’t stand within 1 minute – she was so full of shit! If you were just reading what she said in the very first sentence, without knowing if she was repugnant or not, one would have thought she was toadally describing the repugnants now and before now! Then she made me sick, so I
lalalalalala and went on about my bizness. Home now.
Think I’ll put a post together on “The Devil’s Dictionary”
@ Texas Betsy:
Um, yeah. It looks fine. Kind of odd color-wise, but if you turn out the lights I think you will be OK.
I been working.
I just finished a post for you.
Time for bed. I’ve gotten caught up on all my paperwork, and even got the Social done for Sunday!
Good night all!
Thank you Gnome!
Anyone here?
@ freckles cassie:
Are you excited about tomorrow?
I was just swinging by to say good night.
working on a post
Good, now that Pellora is here to watch over everything, I can go
I’ll check in in the morning before I go off orchid
Too excited to sleep. And I still have four classes before we leave for the airport.

I have a million hits on my blog now! http://frecklescassie.wordpress.com/2009/11/19/one-in-a-million/
@ freckles cassie:
(It never works for me, but
breathing deeply ten breaths sometimes does the trick.)
Yes, that can be a problem. Try
OK, now I am
@ freckles cassie:
See if you have a dull book to read.
The classes will drag since you are excited about your trip. But once you are on that plane, relax and enjoy the experience.
And congrats on the hits, too.
Night, bumz.
Where’s Cassie going? I must have missed the it? Colleges maybe? Someplace neat to cause such excitement!
I think I heard today that Oprah has had her show for 26 years. I have never watched her show. There are other teevee long-timers that I never watched, so it’s not just her.
@ Pellora:
She is touring some colleges in the Northeast. Had to get prepared for possible winter.
I have seen some Oprah shows but didn’t watch much at all. Daytime shows didn’t fit into my schedule and the evening repeats were against other things I wanted to watch more.
I am able to stay up later since I’m on vacation. Still trying to organize my living space.:(
i’m home early!
and that’s after getting in my 40 hrs and stopping at the drugstore and grocery store on the way home
{{{ cassie! }}} congrats on the hits, and have a great time on your trip!
sharonlee, wish i was there to help you take some lunch breaks
@ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
I wish you were, too. However, I am excited about your house. Is eveything on target for closing?
Time for my second good night, or an early good morning.
back after a stint of noshing (mom made corn chowder! NOM!)
sharonlee, so far everything’s on track, i’m cautiously optimistic. g’night, sweet dreams, hope you can enjoy a vacation-time sleep-in

For dawg’s sake, how the PHOOK does religon and property and local business get screwed over by church?
I mean, the church RUNS the shit?
Sorry, church needs changing.
Buh by tax status, and influence in local affairs!
Burn Down The Mission!!!
Morning Bumz! I can’t believe I am the first one here. And I even read through e-mails and stuff before arriving. It is always fun to see who the late nighters are. Sharonlee, you are going to mess up your schedule staying up so late! Larue, you’ve been coming in during the wee hours of the morning. Wassup?
I’ve got orchid farming this morning. I get to wear my Wellies. It rained during the night and more is on the way. Mr. Gnome should be returning from H-town this afternoon, and Habitat will prolly call wanting some more drawings on the house the new family picked out.
I forgot to read my daily LOLcats. It is always good to start the day with a laugh.
Good morning bumz.
