Winter Approaches
Posted by newdealfarmgrrrlll in Humor, Memory Lane, Pets, Relaxed PoliticsAh, Winter! When I was a wee farmgrrrlll I adored snow.

My sibs and I would built elaborate snow forts and lurk along the ramparts, waiting for an unsuspecting Dad to walk along the road from the barn.

Now, I don’t like winter so much. From November to April, I feel like this poor guy.

But if I can persuade this cat to live with me, maybe it would be a bit more bearable.

I really like the Moses one. The best way to deal with snow is avoid it completely.
@ freckles cassie:
So, does that mean you’re eliminating any college north of the Mason/Dixon line? That might help you narrow down your choices some, but would eliminate pretty much all the Ivies as well as the 7 Sisters. Going off to college in a snowy clime might be fun, especially if you know you’re only going to be there for a while
and can always go someplace warm when you graduate!
No madmommy. I’m just insisting on really cool winter boots, and scarf & glove & hat sets.
anyone else
retchingwatching the healthcare debate in congress?*wheeze*
Lurking mod was here.
@ Texas Betsy:
No. Gnomette and I just got in from Wurstfest. Mr. Gnome and SIL stayed home. SIL fried up some fish and made a nice dinner for her little brother. They are watching Polanski’s Fearless Vampire Killers. Not sure what I am going to do.
Well, if no one is around to yak with me, I will just go watch the movie with the rest of the gang.
Sorry, Gnome, I’m here…sorta.
Anyone else read The Pioneer Woman? She’s awesome. She would fit right in at the Beach House.
Lea +2 (but I’m a lightweight, so it’s really like +5)
@ peanutbutter:
I love that comic!! Whoever writes it has been in the trenches
@ Texas Betsy:
No, I’d like to keep my dinner down where it belongs, thankyouverymuch!
@ Lea:
Sheesh, it’s barely six there!! You’ll be out like a light by 9 at this rate
@ Lea:
Yes, I ran across her in a link from Cakewrecks. She does nice work.
@ madmommy:
9 is my target bedtime during the week, so your point is?
@ gnome de plume:
did you read Black Heels to Tractor Wheels? I was caught up in that for several hours. Great story!
@ Lea:
No, I’ll go check it out.
hi honeys, i’m home! almost ready for “g’thud” (ht busted)
Thank goodness I am beyond child bearing (absent a Sarah-type miracle) and those fundies can’t get ahold of my uterus.
Yay! Farmgrrlll survived her shift!
@ Texas Betsy:
good for ndfg. How did it go?
I would love to add BOehner to the unemployed roles in Ohio

next friday i’m going to a fundraiser … one of the objectives is to add bat-shit-crazy bachmann to the unemployment rolls.
for ndfg.
House is now wasting time to record the ayes and nays on the Stupid amendment and the Republican substitute.
Hi. I’m back. Read some of the Pioneer Woman’s romance story. Had enough for tonight.
NDFG – NOoooo! We need the crazy woman! When the opposition is made of Bachmanns, how can we lose?
@ sharonlee:
Why I won’t watch it.
@ gnome de plume:
But if she can be replaced with an Al Franken clone, it would be much better.
@ gnome de plume:
I am enough of a political junkie that I can appreciate some of it even though I am shouting at the tv sometimes.
SSSsshhhh! SIL is passed out in her chair in the living room.
Although, Mr. Gnome is watching the movie with the sound at full blast.
sharonlee wrote:
NDFG says Bachmann’s district is crazy right wing to start with, so I don’t think that is going to happen.
@ gnome de plume:
Is SIL staying the night?
@ sharonlee:
Oh yes. She is 200 miles from home. This is not unusual. She drank a whole bottle of wine herself this evening.
@ gnome de plume:
There’s something wrong with drinking a whole bottle of wine by yourself?
granted, I drink about 3 times a year, so it’s completely different from you sil, but…
@ Lea:
Actually I think she broke into the second bottle. I’ll go check.
Yep. You were right. One bottle is fine. She drank one and a HALF bottles of wine tonight. It was that last half that did it.
From Duncan, who tried to post last night and was stuck in moderation limbo for 9 hours.
Thanks Dunc!
Stupik amendment was adopted
Let’s hope the conference committee rejects it.
sharonlee just saw a suggestion that we should send coat hangers to the cap bldg
That’s an old idea. I don’t believe it is effective anymore. We need to pass a law to support financially any pregnancy and resulting child through college and pay for any funeral resulting from a back-alley abortion.
GOP substitute failed.
Now taking vote on the health care bill.
@ gnome de plume:
Part of her district is nutso BUT also her district is one heckuva contorted gerrymandered mess … if that could be straightened out the sane people around that area would more than balance out the crazies.
@ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
Oh that’s right. I remember what you called it. Some sort of bag
Gnome, we are approaching TMI territory.
betsy, thanks for the coffee! I think i’ll stick it in my thermos mug for first thing tomorrow morning.
Time to
4:15 am is gonna sneak up on me real fast … g’night bumz!
I am wondering WTF the point is in having a dem majority.
Night, ndfg. 4:15 is for going to sleep, not waking up.
Hope the plan works and you get the weekend schedule.
@ Texas Betsy:
OK, I removed the offending comment. But now you know why I am so thrilled to have her visit.
@ gnome de plume:
I still have a full glass worth left in the bottle too. Whew! I need to start drinking water like crazy so I don’t have a headache all day tomorrow. Although, that’s what reminds me not to drink for about 4 months…
It’s time like these that I really wish marijuana was legal.
C-Span callers are driving me crazy. Wonder what they will do with a major health crisis.
@ Lea:
Also, you have all the California stuff to deal with.
The political issues today make a good excuse for drinking.
@ sharonlee:
You mean like the fact that my district has to make 16 million more in cuts and we’ve been asked to identify our “mission critical” items that we can’t live without?
Where’s that last glass?
I am reminded of the saying, “If men had the babies, abortion would be a sacrament.” I am just disgusted at the lack of understanding of situations of people who have different circumstances.
@ Lea:
Did you ever get your donation link up?
@ sharonlee:
We live in such a backward country.
Need 3 more votes to carry the bill. 7 minutes left.
Just went over with 218 votes.
@ sharonlee:
Now you’ve got me awake again.
Uh oh.
sharonlee wrote:
There seems to be 1 republican vote for the bill, but that may the vote need so someone can ask for reconsideration. (those pesky Roberts Rules).
Looks like the final is 220 to 215. Way too close on such an important issue.
@ sharonlee:
TPM says that one R vote was from Cao of Louisiana – the guy that defeated the felon, William Jefferson. He reps a D district.
TPM says MM’s Cao may vote for the bill.
Watched a tiny bit live, and the tape of the Repuke’s being highly objectionable. But there was some pretty decent football and some great hockey, and I don’t feel much like thinking about politics tonight.
sharonlee wrote:
Yes, I am surprised at that number. It will be interesting to look at the breakdown, to see if it was Blue Dogs or lefties who voted against it.
Gordon, pellora, sharonlee or anyone else —- care to do a healthcare update post?
@ gordon:
I missed the football. HOw did the Tide do?
@ sharonlee:
They beat LSU 24-15. MM is happy.
OK, now that the House is done, I am going to turn in.
@ Texas Betsy:
There’s not a lot to say. The vote was sad. We cannot depend on the Senate or the Conference Committee. We may be having to do a lot of fundraisers to pay for our individual health care.
I remember a number of years ago telling my doctor that parents should not have to go out and raise money to make sure their kids are treated. Likewise spouses.
@ gnome de plume:
Yeah, MM and the Tide
I’m going to follow gnome’s example and turn in.
Sorry, TB, I’m about to stumble off myself.
The thing I have to say is pass the damn thing, warts and all. That way the ideological fight will be over, and we can start fixing it.
I do hope the histrionics, paranoia and utter stupidity the Republicans have put on display in fighting HC reform will be well preserved for posterity. And any independents who “tend Republican” are forced to watch it. Until they re-register as Ds or tear their eyes out, whichever comes first.
A few questions. 1) What does King Abdullah have to do with anything? 2) Did Pelosi HAVE to let that amendment through? 3) Is MSNBC THE place for politics only on weekdays? 4) Did they just criminalize all health insurance companies that provide abortion coverage? Even when there is a medical necessity?
The tape is here, courtesy of Think Progress.
Splice in “I object! I object!” with video of a 2 yr old’s temper tantrum. One visual “Vote Democratic”.
Maybe hire that guy that does the Quizno’s talking baby. Man, that kid can be seriously creepy (and funny).
OK, brain pan is empty for the night! Sleep well, everyone!
@ Texas Betsy:
1) No idea.
2) Probably. It’s at least partly a symbolic (face-saving) victory for some Blue Dogs. I don’t give it a big chance of surviving.
3) Correct.
4) No, they can’t sell plans with abortion coverage on the exchange (or really, those who get subsidies can’t buy those plans).
This is the ideological House R’s (and “pro-life” Blue Dogs) beating up on poor women. When you get to the Senate, it’s a lot less pure ideological. It will get changed again, at least once.
new post upstairs
Good night bumz. See you in the morning.
