South Carolina’s U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson voted to provide medical care to illegal aliens. See solid coverage of the vote and issue at Open Congress. (Open Congress is a good site — government teachers, bookmark it.)

A number of people who have lost jobs are in the 55+ range. Little prospect for jobs and insurance is too expensive for most.
Now back on topic. Wilson will learn that with the Internet and Google, you cannot hide from anything.
It was disgusting seeing him signing picture of his rude moment.
Larue, bone to pick with you. If I read comments correctly, you have been going through a health crisis and didn’t let us know during the fact. What are we for here at the Beach House if not to be supportive. At least give us a chance.
Also, on the Friday you were festing, I posted a pressure cooker recipe for you in the substitute Foodie Friday post.
My eyes are shutting down, so will be logging off.
Pain-free sleep and a good school day tomorrow, Betsy.
Pellora, your volume of posts has been astounding.
MM, hope the migraine fairy comes overnight and takes yours away.
Night, all
g’night betsy! g’night, sharonlee!

I’m back. G’night Madmommy, Betsy, Gordon, Sharonlee – sleep tight, sweet pain free dreams (especially to MM and TB) –
Hey Gordon, Larue – I think there would be re-rates, but only when your life situation changes from one group to another. Like if you become widowed, get married, get divorced, etc. Go from single to not or the other way for whatever reason. Also if kids are born or move out – the next year you would be reporting a different life style, and would thus be in line for a re-rate. I think. If nothing changes, then you would be facing whatever your group re-rate is, if any.
Thanks much Gordon. You were terrific in the post and in answering the questions. I appreciate your knowledge and patience.
I read about this irony earlier today, but a comment on it seemed off topic so I refrained. Yes, *they* all need to remember there is google, audio, and video. ‘course you got to have a brain and a memory first
I think the ins cos won’t mind competing amongst themselves since they all want the status quo and the profits. It’s the fear of competing against some one who isn’t in the biz for the money that they truly fear – they will look even worse then. And that’s going a ways, since they look heinous now.
Betsy, how do you get linkies in the post set up so that upon clicking, it opens a new tab?
A Post in the cupboard for you.
Santorum mulling run for White House: Reports
Santorum for President of the USA? I don’t think so.
Morning bumz! The headache is finally gone, but not before making me
Haven’t had one that bad in a long time
Now it’s just the groggy aftereffects, which I can deal with. Thanks for the well wishes!
Mom called this morning, my Aunt passed away last night. Cousin called mom at 5 this morning. Her BP was really low all weekend, and the doctors and hospice folks said to prepare as it wouldn’t be long. All her daughters were with her at the end, so that’s something. She didn’t want a funeral, so they will likely do a memorial service this weekend.
Another Monday ahead, which means MNF
And with the Saints opening a whole case of whoop-ass on the Lions yesterday, I would like to order another dozen games just like that, kthxbai!
Good morning all. How are my favorite beach bumz?
Morning, Bumz.
Cleaning up from last night, here is community rating in HR3200:
It is present in all the bills.
You probably haven’t heard about it because it doesn’t roll off the tongue like “prohibiting PECs” and “prohibiting dropping you when you get sick”.
Off to do some fahmin’. See ya later.
G’morning MM (blessings to your and your family
) and Betsy (
) and Gordon (say moooo to the cows for me!)
Checking in. Just a quickie. I have to write a report, but finally I have a rough draft to work with
Gordon – whats up with Olympia? And Susan? Is Maine a red northeast state? They were both on the talking heads yesterday, though I only read about it today.
And this, I have a question about just what this is about “ncluding: (1) exempting grandfathered health insurance coverage from requirements of this Act;” AND Can the exchange system work decently enough if there is no public option in the mix of plans available? Will the ins cos be willing to make plans affordable when competing amongst just themselves, do the other provisions make it so that they will have to fairly compete and be cost affordable. What a mess.
g’morning Bumz
tomatoes need canning but i have to go to work
@ Pellora:
Susan is a moderate on some issues and quite conservative on others. She’s also an idiot. Olympia (whose a whole lot smarter and more reasonable) is lately backtracking on some earlier things she said. The Rs are putting all the pressure they can on both of them. I sometimes wonder if Olympia is negotiating quietly to follow Specter.
The grandfathered thing: know how Obama is saying “if you like what you have, nothing is forcing you or your employer to change plans”? That’s what that is. Any employer that doesn’t change things at next renewal is nuts, of course.
The most important thing is the size of the exchanges. If there’s only one, the ins co’s *have* to compete, or go out of business. If they carve up the country into say 10 exchanges, then each is probably still big enough to do some serious negotiating. If it’s carved up into smaller chunks, the exchanges lose a lot of their effectiveness.
For a national exchange, I would trade the public option. But if the exchanges are small I want the strongest possible public option.
Hi bumz. Frustrating class. Kids were all cooped up in small apartments during the weekend rain and they’re a bit stir crazy.
@ Texas Betsy:
my youngest’s 1st grade teacher dealt with that kind of thing by having the kids run in a big circle around the classroom as fast as they could while waving their arms in the air. She called it “getting your energies out,” and it is still a standard phrase in our family
@ gordon:
Hi Gordon. I’ve wondered this too “I sometimes wonder if Olympia is negotiating quietly to follow Specter.”
I understand what you’ve explained (I think
) and agree with this that you said “The most important thing is the size of the exchanges. If there’s only one, the ins co’s *have* to compete, or go out of business. If they carve up the country into say 10 exchanges, then each is probably still big enough to do some serious negotiating. Do you think Olympia will jump to D? She reminds me of Specter in a lot of ways. And she just doesn’t seem
enough for the Rs now. Susan seems like a dummie or is so easily swayed or bought that she seems like one. So Maine is a moderate state really, is that the gist? Or have these two never had competition? Maine is small like Nevada, and once we get a Senator (especially) that has some seniority and power, they are usually not voted out, but retire or die and then are replaced – even if they sometimes run afoul of libertarian independent Nevadans who choose R or D depending on the climate and day
Wiki List of United States Senators from Nevada We’ve had some very powerful Senators over the years since Statehood, and they brought home lots of $$$ to this little old federally owned state. Laxalt was Raygun’s BFF. I don’t much like some of the Laxalts, but that is a whole ‘nother story. Know their history. There were and are some very good Laxalts, also some very corrupt and greedy Laxalts.
@ Pellora:
Olympia’s voting record is more liberal than Ben Nelson’s, and what Specter’s used to be when he was an R.
Yeah, once Maine has a Senator they pretty much have to get caught dismembering small animals while chanting Satanic rites before they get voted out. When in Maine, Susan pretends to be a lot more moderate than she actually is (she is best buddies with Santorum), so I have some hope that someday people will catch on. But Olympia is definitely Senator-for-life.
OK, back to work.
Hope the haying is going well, Gordon. You don’t have to play farmville on facebook, do you? Back in my farm days, tractors didn’t come with fork lifts (I remember my dad plowing with a horse pulling the plow in the days before our Farmall Cub.) Milking cows mainly grazed on the pasture grass and had a mixture of Pruina Milk Chow and corn for their food (a separte formula for each cow). Hay came in rectangular bales. Still heavy but no where near your huge rolls.
The problem with moderate republicans converting to the D column is that then they are conservative Dems for the most part and that affects the scope of the party.
ndfg, maybe your brother will can the tomatoes for you as in-kind payment for your gardening help.
Now back to the chores.
Aftenooon Bumz! I am just now getting back into life here in Gnomeville. We had a total of ten inches of rain while I was gone!!! My house was/is a muddy wreck, and to show how much they love us, puppies have decided to tear up a few things, including Mr. Gnome’s neck brace that he has to sleep with! (They want to go out and play, but work is impeding them.)
While at the birthday bash in Santa Fe, I ran into a little-known super secret society: Middle aged married women who are in love with Rachel Maddow! This was at a gathering of mostly conservative, traditional Rethug type people. One of these society members I will invite to the Beach House when I get back to her via e-mail.
OK, back to work, catching up with stuff. I’ll try to do a quick post on one of my adventures in NM later – climbing stairs and ladders on cliffs at Bandelier – and surviving! (I have pictures to prove it.)
You haven’t seen the size of my classroom ndfg!
I am off to look for a washing machine. Then swim. Back in a few hours.
There are a few presidential medal of freedom winners upstairs.
@ sharonlee:
No, I don’t play farmville.
The forklift tractor belongs to a construction type, not a farmer type. Farmers use a spear attached to the bucket to handle round bales. Takes a pretty big tractor though, because then the weight is way out in front.
My 2nd cousin / friend down the road actually hays his fields with 2 draft horses and an antique cutter. Mostly the horses are for doing eco-friendly wood lot work during the winter – no need for roads, those huge horses can snake a tree down a surprisingly narrow path.
