Tell the superintendent, right? That’s what I would do! Oh wait. Hrmmmm.
From the same source:
But Superintendent Janet Meeks, who is a member of the church and witnessed the baptisms, said she thinks the trip was proper because attendance was not required, and another coach paid for the gas.
Meeks said parents weren’t given permission slips to sign but knew the event would include a church service, if not specifically a baptism. She said eight or nine players came forward and were baptized.
Can we please go back to separating church and state? At least within county lines?

For the fuck of shit. If I were a parent of a child on this team I would be raising a ration of hell the likes of which have not been seen since the beginning of time. Who the hell does this assclown think he is?? How would he feel if his kid was taken to a mosque and “converted”? I don’t think he’d be very happy. I hope this moran gets his stupid ass fired and run out of town on a rail.
I read this article earlier today. They say the kids were told that the trip would be a dinner and a speaker
MM, “They say the kids were told that the trip would be a dinner and a speaker.”
No one apparently mentioned an altar call.
When I was a teen, our church youth group was visiting other churches. We lost one of our members to the local Baptist church. She was baptized on our visit there.
If youth are taken to visit religious services, they should be given information ahead of time on how that service will work. For some, emotion plays large.
Oh good God. I get home in time to watch Rachel, then watch KO and get depressed about the prospects of real health reform; I wade through the spat between Gordon and Larue, wishing CT was here to put the full Maine press on our festy boy; Gordon heads off to bed; and then I read this crazy-ass post. I think I will run away to Santa Fe!
@ gnome de plume:
Easy enough, you were going there anyway! Now you have an excuse!
I’m with MM. I would be raising complete havoc and chaos!!!!!!!!! Absolutely would not let it be.
And the Super should also be fired! And the gas-payer if he was in cohoots!
@ Pellora2:
I would never have to raise a ruckus if some teacher or coach tried this on Gnomette. She would probably punch their lights out and drive the bus home herself!
It’s just another example of how it’s ok for some people to do some things and not ok for other people to do similar things. I’m going to Santa Fe with Gnome. Or maybe New Zealand.
Gnome, when do you leave for Santa Fe?
Texteen’s entire 9th grade Hebrew school curriculum consisted of learning about different religions and going as a class to visit various church, synagogue & mosque services around town.
Who else found themselves missing Persiflage an her anti-state-religion comments when they read through this post?
To Persi:
@ Texas Betsy:
We leave early Thursday morning. We are driving. 750 miles. We will be back either late, late Sunday night or on Monday if we decide to see our friend at the Big Bend Ranch and stay overnight.
@ Texas Betsy:
at the same time. I mentioned Persi today to a new FB friend who wanted to know where I blogged. I invited her to come join us and she said she would.
To Persi!

I would imagine the churches, synagogues & mosques they visited respected them and their study. As it should be.
It’s been a long day, so I am going to collapse. Safe trip to Santa Fe, Gnome.
Pain-free sleep, Betsy.
Night, all.
Oh yes, the interesting thing I heard tonight during KO’s chat with Lawrence O’Donnell on the legislative process that will get a health reform bill through, O’Donnell kept saying that the left would fold like they have always done, like they did in ‘93. But then he would bring up the internet and how it wasn’t around then. In other words, the manufacturing of consent that happened in the olden days might not happen this time. KO is obviously very much on the Public Option side and mentioned that WE might have to be manning the barricades if health reform isn’t true reform!!!!
Keith is inciting revolution! Gasp! Oh wait. They do that on FOX Noise everyday.
Some economic news that is not getting much attention. I had read where both Geithner and Barney Frank were working on new banking regulations. It would be great to get them slipped by the wingnuts while they were teabagging everything else.
Paul Krugman on why a public option matters.
2nd coffee break
i’ve been pretty much speechless over the amount of wingnut screeching that’s been going on. They all need tatoos for their forheads that say “Morans R Us!”
Good night bumz.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz
I like the bedroom too, and what a wonderful view.
g’night – sleep tight, sweet pain free quiet calming dreams.
Betsy – a thoroughly distressing post is done for tomorrow.
I need to go
so that I can carry The Light
Time to recharge for the long haul.
But I will also read. And hope to sleep. I am wanting the reading and the
to empty my head of negativity and fill it with Light.
Morning bumz!
No news regarding my Aunt. I called my cousin last night but got her voice mail. So hopefully her dingbat sister showed up to give her some support. There were no emails this morning so I assume nothing has changed.
The little guy came home yesterday with an additional bag, seems he was chosen as King of the Jungle for this week. Each week a student is chosen. They get to bring home the special bag, which has a journal they make an entry into, a book about wild animals, and a stuffed monkey. The monkey is the class mascot. A fitting choice for a Kindergarten, I think! He also got a crown that he can bring home Friday-he’s quite proud of himself.
Ooooooo! We got linked to over at C&L in the blog round up this morning for the post about access to the President’s message. Way to go Betsy!!
morning bumz.
The weather service just issued a flood advisory for us! It is raining that hard!
Fortunately my yard is flat so it should be able to soak up this wonderful gift from the sky!
Pellora has a depressing post on the queue for 10:30. Catch y’all later.
Enjoy the rain Gnome.
