Ahh the Sun is Shining. Think I Should Kill Some People?
Posted by Texas Betsy in Courts and Justice, Relaxed PoliticsIs it just easier to kill people on sunny days? Maybe the guns work better. Maybe we’re too depressed on rainy days to bother.
In New York City, Fewer Murders on Rainy Days
An analysis of rainfall and homicides for the last six years shows that when it rains substantially in the summertime, there are fewer homicides.
…
The gap is even wider when looking just at Saturdays in the summer. Those days typically post the highest number of homicides in the course of a year. When there was no rain, the average number of homicides for the 10 Saturdays in summer jumped to 24. For those few Saturdays doused with at least an inch of rain, the rate was 18.

Cohn, a professor at Florida International University, who has examined links between weather and crime for more than two decades, said the impact of rain on crime was “not much.” While she has not examined homicides in New York, she said rainfall tended not to strongly predict homicides in the United States.
Some studies found other crimes, like aggravated assault, went down when there was rain, Professor Cohn said one reason might be that assaults more often involve strangers, and rain dampens the chances that people who do not know each other will encounter one another.

maybe because it’s hotter when it’s sunny and people are crankier? maybe they like the glint of the sun on their gun? who knows?
If the sun is shining and the temperature is 105 in the shade, what happens to the homicide rate?
Hi Betsy.
Where did EO post go? It’s not in my list back stage. You move it? Just wondering. And the other is the img codes for the posting instructions you provided to me long time ago. It can be deleted if you want.
Hi PB.
I see we passed comments like ships in the night!
I don’t know how to make a link to something like you did. If it’s not a linkie to some other website anyway. I guess I need a lesson.
Back to Hot Topic!
Watch out for Sunny Saturdays! Murderers and assaulters seem to like plying their trade then….
And people get paid, sometimes big bucks, to study this stuff. Like it matters, or that anything can be done about it. It’s a fear thing – what are they trying to impress on people? Or is it just making people scared for general purpose …
Balmy 88 here today, partly cloudy as in the clouds could turn into afternoon thunderheads. And maybe the rain in the thunderheads could fall and actually reach the ground. Or not. The rain has been evaporating in mid fall for the last week. Partly cloudy does bring the temperatures down. We’ve been in the high 90s for a week.
@ Pellora2:
It moved from drafts to scheduled.
It is heading back to the century mark here in central Texas after several days of highs “only” in the 90’s with no rain in sight.
Betsy hogged all the rain in Austin.
OMG!
I just checked my bank balance and the bank reversed the debit. I got my $1000 back!!!
@ gnome de plume: It’s a miracle.
yay gnome!
@ gnome de plume:
HAPPY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Where’s the icecream, cake, and cookies?
@ gnome de plume:
Hey, can I borrow $500?
@ sharonlee:
I talked to my local branch yesterday and told them what had happened. They were appalled, said that those stop-payment calls are recorded, that all the information I gave the rep should be there and that my “concern” needed to be elevated to Customer Care in Corporate. My “sweet” approach worked!!!
@ Pellora2:
Now I can afford the cake and ice cream!
EDP – sorry, no. I’ve got bills to pay.
@ gnome de plume:
Did you talk to customer care in corporate or did the local branch take care of it?
a preview of Saturday’s fare
@ sharonlee:
Local evidently took care of it.
God that shortcake is beautiful!
Just leave off the strawberries. I will take double in blueberries.
Now off to the dentist.
Some days our new president just makes me smile.
@ sharonlee:

@ Texas Betsy:
We aren’t planning on it. The city fireworks display goes off from the golf course. All we have to do is set up chairs in our front yard and we not only have a great view, but we get to interact with all the people walking by. What’s up?
We were supposed to go to Nancy’s for fireworks gazing but her MIL died last night and they have the funeral Sunday, so no celebration for the 4th. Trying to find an alternate plan.
another pic from last night.
@ Texas Betsy:
When do your parents arrive? Will they be here or is it just you and texteen?
My folks get here noonish Saturday.
Off to swim. Back later. We have a Laura garden post soon and then Pellora’s Michael Jackson post tonight.
I’d invite everyone down for a kosher evening picnic but the place gets horribly crowded on the 4th and is not much fun. Although folks from NY will think it normal.
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford blew away much of the privacy of the place over the past week, revealing he had confided in his “C Street” friends, a collection of current and former lawmakers,. ..The building, registered in District of Columbia tax records as a religious and commercial building, is affili ated with a Christian group of many names, including the “Fellowship Foundation.” The group sponsors the annual National Prayer Breakfast attended by the president, members of Congress and dignitaries around the world.
Headline says Senator Goodhair and S.C. Guvner – but the story does not mention the Senator…
