Foodie Friday-Burger Me THIS!

Howdy Ya Bumz!
It’s Foodie Friday and it’s time to talk tuna!!!
A dear fest-camping buddy of mine, Tubdude Of Camp Howdy was blog wandering and found and posted this recipe/site to HIS blog that’s dedicated to Festing/Camping, and asked for ONE of us food type guys to make this at the Fall Fest in our camp.
I took a look at the recipe, fell in love, and then started perusing the REST of this Food In My Beard Blogger’s Site . . . WOOT!!!!
I heartily suggest all Bumz take a stroll thru FoodBeard’s site, and bookmark it. There’s some LOVELY foodie thangs goin on there that will certainly tantalize yer taste buds, be they vegan, carnivore or anywhere in between!
And stop by Camp Howdy and thank Tubdude for sharing his lip smacking find of FoodBeard!!!
But for now, let’s talk about FoodBeard’s recipe for this INCREDIBLE Tuna Burger!
I won’t post the recipe items and prep, I think we should clicky HIS place and drive some traffic there out of blogger love and respect.
But I’ll add to the tuna recipe that there just HAS to be some fresh ground ginger root or ginger powder in there somewhere.
And instead of jalapeno, I’d use chili serrano, a roasted one at that. And there’s GOT to be a hint of wasabi in it. I’d splash some sesame oil and some light soy, but not much. And I’d prefer in MY version to use an egg to tighten, rather than breadcrumbs. And where’s there a burger, there’s GOT to be some red onions ground up in there with some garlic. And I guess, I’d shave some lemon zest or squeeze a tad of fresh lime juice into it all. What the heck, that’s how this Larue rolls!!
And as for using a knife to cut the tuna and get it into a semi ground state, not THIS Larue. I’m no longer the young purist I used to be! I’m LAZY! I’m talking using a food processor!
I’m not sure what I’ll do about a food processor whilst fest camping, as I’m not in an RV and the electrical grid is kinda weak were the fest is.
So, I may be hitting the thrift stores for one of these.
And THAT alone will open up not only new camping culinary horizons for me, but will also move me up a notch at home for a ton of new things I can do leaning towards the vegetable/chicken/fish/shrimp/crab thing.
As far as the cole slaw recipe goes, it LOOKS and sounds delish!!!
Again, I’d use a roasted chili serrano, not a jalapeno, and I’d get some fresh ginger root in there, also.
Other than that, FoodBeardGuy has got it nailed down!
Oh, don’t forget his wasabi, mayo and lime juice spread! I’d add some garlic and ginger root to it, maybe some light soy . . . but not much. It’s a killer spread!
As for the bun dough recipe, he’s got a good one! I’m not makin fresh dough while festing, so I’ll hafta look for some artisan substitute in the market to take along. There’s so many great choices in the markets these days that are baked on premise, I’m SURE I’ll find a sesame kinda equivalent!
So, make sure to go by FoodBeard’s place and check out his present list of summer pasta salad dishes, and past recipes, pictures, posts and such and share that bloggie love!!! Cuz this guy’s got it goin on!
Anyhoots, there ya have it for today, a great recipe base, a new great foodie site to prowl, and it’s all enough to make me HONGRY!!!!
Now get out in yer kitchen and make something to eat!
Mangiamo!

Wow Larue! That sounds awesome! Don’t know if I’d change it as much as you did, but soy fer sure. And ginger, too.
Teaser for da bumz… that’s not cheese. You’ll have to go to Food In My Beard’s site to find out what it is cuz I ain’t tellin’.
As Iris Dement croons, “I think I’ll just let, the mystery be.”
NOM NOM. Looks like fresh mango to me … i’ll have to go visit foodinmybeard ‘n see if i guessed right.
WELCOME BACK LARUE! I know ya had a good time festing, one of these years mebbe i’ll make it to one ‘o them fests. I’m not musical, but i’m an appreciative audience
I just got home from one of my best restaurant experiences EVAH! Teh Pop Princess (my youngest daughter) works as a waitress at a TexMex chain, so every once in a while family shows up there. And my oldest nephew, son of Baby Brother, luuurrrrvvvvs the fresh guacamole that is prepared table-side. I’d promised to take him and his two sibs there a couple of months ago and schedules being hectic, wasn’t until tonight that we went. Last Saturday was Baby Brother’s birthday, which Pop Princess remembered. We went early, to avoid the rush. So at dessert time, she had gathered up the whole staff to do the obnoxious birthday song.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! A dozen or more waiters/waitresses/busboys/dishwashers/cooks all came tromping out clapping, some shaking tamborines, doing the restaurant birthday chant. And Pop Princess slapped a sombrero on top of Baby Brother’s head while yelling “HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE ___!”. My nephews, niece & I were laughing so hard we were crying. As they say, the meal-$$$, the tip-$$$, the look on Baby Brother’s face-PRICELESS!
ahahahaha! I have to go fall into a beach chair and laugh some more.
((((((ndfg)))))
If it doesn’t drop below a hunnert and six soon, I’m heading up your way!
@ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
Great restaurant hippo birdie story, NDFG!!
WDDoodle, it’s only 91F here right now, but our ‘delta breezes’ just died, and it feels like 100F.
Sadly, it’s forecasted for 105F or more the next few daze here. After a day of that, the AC in our cave can’t overcome the trapped heat below as it swells up at the end of the day and it’s 80F inside till midnight even with AC blaring full bore.
Sigh. Ice cubes, water, a bowl and bare feet to soak to kewl . . . .
I say we all go festing somewhere up above 5,000ft in The Sierra’s to stay kewl!
Hey Larue, thanks for the linky!
Found recipes for a Basil-Orange Mojito and one for a Macerated Pepper Tomato Cucumber Cocktail.
The Bearded One’s blog roll is interesting, especially the Passive Aggressive Notes.
Howdy Beach Bumz!
Too hot to make burgers of any kind.
@ larue:
A fest in the Sierras sounds cooler than the one Mr. Doodle was telling me about in E.B.F., Texas this Labor Day. I think it may be oldgrass, tho. Tell me about this newgrass, maybe a Youtube linky to an example?
Hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi BBE!
@ Beach Bum Explorer:
Howdy BBE! Ice cream burger would be good right about now.
@ Wangdangdoodle:
yeah! as long as i don’t have to go outside where the grill is, but it would be cool to see the ice cream melt on the coals.
I think I shall have a Caprese salad tonight – no cooking, just slicing and drizzling. It works when it is still a hunnert at 8 PM!
@ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
Hmmmm…sounds suspiciously like Chevy’s to me. I still have my sombrero from a birthday fiesta of mine many moons ago
I was nearly as red as the tablecloths when the waitstaff started in with the song
Larue-I lurves me some nice, thick tuna steaks! Sadly, the madhubby only wants to eat fish he has caught himself, and since he doesn’t have a boat, and fishing from the bank is beneath him…turns out I have three children not two!
Howdy friends. Our AC is either in overload or being cycled by the city, but it’s 85 in the house an 99 outside. Bleh
wangdang, you might not wanna bother to come up here … the temp has finally, near sunset, dropped down to 85. Altho from what i remember about texas last summer, that prolly sounds downright arctic to you
madmommy, you’re pretty astute
Baby Brother is quite Teh Redneck but as long as we don’t talk politics we get along great. I didn’t tell him that the booth full of guys right behind him was probably in town for Twin Cities Pride Celebration weekend. Minneapolis has the nation’s 3rd largest Pride event, i understand.
If I lose weight by sweating, can I skip Cassie’s early morning beach house exercise program?
@ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
I might just be banned forever for admitting this in Larue’s foodie thread, but I like Chevys! Those flour tortillas, and the chips made therefrom, are scrumpdillicious!! True story-I used to work for a certain weight loss company as a Lifestyle Instructor. I taught the classes that were offered to help the clients while they were on the program, and also to transition to their maintenance program. I worked an odd schedule some days, in which I would be there from 8-12, the off from 12-3, then back on from 3-7. It so happened that there was a Chevys at the other end of the strip mall where our center was located. Many’s the time when I would spend a portion of my mid-day break with a pitcher of beer, chips and salsa on the patio at Chevys. And if I were to run into any clients while I was scarfing down Coronas, chips and salsa?? “I’m not on the program honey, you are. When you’re at your goal weight, you too can enjoy chips, salsa and beer. In moderation, of course!”
@ Texas Betsy:
Is anyone other than Cassie actually participating in the early morning excercise program
What is this moderation of which you speak?
Of course we are! Don’t you see us out there exercising on the beach?
Had to look up Chevys. Looks yummy!
I’m not exercising, but I am being good and continuing to have protein shakes for breakfast 6 days a week. I will say that Wii DDR is pretty good exercise though. I may post a video of the little guy doing his moves on the mat, but it would have to be a limited run and go poof pretty quickly. Hubby is a little freaky about pics of them on the intertubes.
@ Texas Betsy:
All I can think of when I look at that picture is those two gals up front are getting sand in places where sand really should never, ever be
Good on ya Lea!!
Chevys is a chain, and as such it is what it is. But for places that really don’t have a lot of authentic Tex/Mex places (like say, Texas
) it ain’t too bad!
My favorite place to eat in Houston was Mamacita’s…ribs to die for. Of course, this was a long, long time ago when I was a carnivore and would visit my ex-f-i-l with my wasband.
@ madmommy:

Maybe we should all post early morning to say we have run, where was she?
Larue, I could skip the tuna burger but the bread on the recipe blog looks delicious. Just bread and butter will work.

Lightning would strike me dead on the spot for telling such a lie
Saw your comment downstairs re:tiredness. Yeah, it would be nice if the kidlets folded laundry and made beds. I’ve showed them how to do it, and the results are…interesting. It probably doesn’t much matter that I fold their clothes, because they dig willy-nilly through their dresser for a particular item with no thought as to the havoc the leave behind. The big kid’s bed is up against the wall, so it’s hard to make up. He wants to rearrange his room, and I’m trying to figure out a way to have his bed open on both sides. Sadly, their rooms just aren’t that big. It’s doable, but eats the majority of floor space.

Nah, God is a woman and she would understand.

Newgrass, as pioneered by Charlie Waller And The Country Gentlemen. Others were bending the tradgrass, but Waller and Gents are said to have been the first to go outside the Monroe box. John Duffey was one of the Gents, and is recognized as one of the greatest tenor/hi tenors, with an octave range of over 4 octaves for that high lonesome sound.
John Duffey joined a few others to form the Seldom Scene, who are recognized as THE newgrass band sound. Gents in the mid to late 60’s, Seldom Scene in the early 70’s forward.
The Kentucky Colonels (Clarence and Roland White) are another newgrass like precursor to The Scene.
And of course, EVERYONE says Newgrass Revival was the real deal, but they were a decade after The Gents and The Scene.
Newgrass, taking songs and mixing trad grass elements with hippie like jam grass arranging, doing songs that were NOT tradgrass, but grassing them up.
Google Seldom Scene Youtube, or Country Gentlemen Youtube, and you’ll hear it.
Newgrass, it’s a broad brush, but it’s NOT pure trad grass the way Mr. MONroe did it (the purists scoff at it but they are old and dying).
Texas Betsy wrote:
Chevy’s is not that bad, given all the OTHER gringo wrecks that have ruined real mexican food!
Here’s I Know You Rider, by The Seldom Scene. It’s a classic newgrass tune! And Mike Auldridge on dobro is god!
My son doesn’t make the bed at all (and neither do I), and I fold my laundry. If he doesn’t care whether his stuff gets folded, neither do I.
@ Texas Betsy:
Making beds is one thing that must be done, IMHO. I cannot sleep in a bed unmade from the night before. Just cannot do it. Even though there have been days when I made the bed right before getting back into it.
In my defense, I had a toddler and a newborn at the time, I was lucky to get a shwer every few days!!
In the Digital Iran, Censorship and Surveillance Merge
But do the KIDS’ beds need to be made?
I am finally hungry. Off to fix some dinner.
If I don’t get back, pain-free sleep, Betsy.
@ Texas Betsy:
Of course! What if someone broke into the house and saw every bed left unmade? I’d die of mortification!!
Here’s Charlie Waller with The Country Gentlemen, but not with John Duffey in the band.
Fox On The Run is now considered to be a ‘passe kind of song, over done like Freebird in rock, or Rocky Top in bluegrass. If the audience requests it, the band might sneer and say ‘we don’t know that one’.
But this is a classic, and as the introduction (Mike Seegar, Pete’s kid) says, it’s the edge of newgrass and the bridge from tradgrass ala Bill Monroe.
All right!!! Found a reunion of Charlie Waller (man his voice on this is sweet) And Country Gents in ‘92 with John Duffey! Not an uptempo tune, but dang, the harmonies! WOOT!
Madmom, they’d think your kids were kids!
Hubby likes the bed made, so he makes it. I couldn’t care less if it’s made or not.
Limbaugh Blames Sanford’s Affair On Obama, Because Why Not?
PB, did we expect he’d do anything else?
I guess, since Sonny and Bobby Osbourne were a HUGE part (brother harmonies like only siblings can) of the post Bill Monroe tradgrass, that a view of the pop dead Rocky Top is warranted . . . but please, don’t ask the band at the pizza parlor to do it, just ask them if they know some Osbourne Brothers, Country Gentlemen or Seldom Scene songs, and they’ll think yer the hippest schnizz since Bill Monroe passed away!
larue, i think that’s a double post. mind if i delete 1?
@ Texas Betsy:
No, while they were rifling through my sock drawer they’d be commenting on my unfitness as a mother, that I would let the beds go unmade. That, and the sad lack of anything of any value in my house
That tired thing I mentioned earlier is back with a vengeance, so it’s off to bed. Bed, with it’s crisp, smooth sheets and nicely turned coverlet. But first I’ve got to wake the madhubby and make him carry the little guy to his own bed. Pleasant pain-free sleep to all!
@ larue:
ACK!!! It’s the University of Tennesee fight song!
Why did I click on that link?? Now I gotta go find something to replace it in my head or I’ll never get to sleep.

Evening Bumz! Had to make an ice cream run to try to get some energy back. Granddaughter #2 has arrived. She and Grandpa are getting her room and Tiger Lily – her pet lizard – all set up. (The room that used to be yours, Betsy
)
The baseball room I posted the other night?
Hi Granddaughter 2 and Gnome and Tiger Lily and Mr. de Plume!
I make my bed every day. Unmade meds look messy.

Regular fans. No ceiling fans in this apt. That was the last place.

Don’t mind a little newgrass. More my kind of thing than Michael Jackson, to tell the truth.
