Friday Afternoon and Where Are You?

Welcome to my neighborhood. This is beautiful Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, at Sunset. Pink Time.
With all the media attention on Michael Jackson, some other things are not getting air time.
I am sorry that Farrah Fawcett isn’t getting more attention. She grew herself up from a beautiful (supposedly) “air head” to an accomplished actress, and handled her severe health problems with great bravery and honesty. She stood up for her privacy rights when a hospital employee looked at her confidential records and blabbed – that action alone provided many patients with a restored right to privacy. She was a role model for many women, and she will be sorely missed.
Remembering Farrah
We have been dismayed that the highlight on the South Carolina Republican Governor has been lessened – but today, while calls for his complete resignation have gotten louder, we are hearing less. And his idea to blow off the calls for his resignation is to compare himself to King David And that probably won’t get media time either, since it’s so embarrassing to the Repugnants and their media cronies.
So it makes me wonder if the guilty plea of Monica Conyers will get media coverage? Given that the MSM is in the tank for the Repugnants…. that will be a good test of bias. I don’t get why Monica would do this. And I wonder if her husband will be painted with the broad brush of corruption, though it is unlikely he was complicit. But that will be discussed. Do we dare to hope it gets buried in the news due to Michael?
There’s imminent voting on the clean energy bill in the House. And President Obama has been making lots and lots of phone calls, as has V.P. Biden, Al Gore, Speaker Pelosi, and others to get the “true” story out about what this bill does and doesn’t do. It is hard to find voting information on this one. The vote was 217-205 to advance the White House-backed legislation toward a final roll call expected within hours. Thirty Democrats defected, a reflection of the controversy the bill sparked. But the looming big vote on this one is barely being covered – though The Boner’s Colorful Chart did get some play but could have gotten more if it wasn’t so embarrassing and the media cronies are tired of embarrassing their friends in low places.
All in all, it’s a Friday, and embarrassing news for the Repugnants will get hidden in the Friday Late Afternoon Dump and along with news of Democratic wins, while Democratic losses and Repugnant wins and other more salient news will just get lost in all the hyperbole.
Have a nice Friday and a good weekend.

@ peanutbutter:
Lisa Marie could have just kept silent. Her comment was touching and put a lot into context. Thanks for linking to it.
@ Pellora2:
“We all might as well compare ourselves to some giant historical person when we do stoopid things. ”
I believe I will be Queen Elizabeth I on even days and Queen Victoria on the odd days.
Pel, an incredibly lovely pic of a great place I’ve visited often over the decades!
Thanks for posting it!
I’ve got a few thoughts on some issue you allude to above, maybe by Saturday or Sunday I’ll get it into a post form.
All about patterns. Patterns in lack of reform everywhere we need it and we were told we’d GET it.
But until then, Betsy, if ya could review it, the new Foodie Friday is ready and scheduled. Been a while, never know WHAT I might have messed up, but preview looked ok when I was done.
I got stuff to tend to, but I’ll be back later for Foodie Friday posting and thoughts and comments!
Love that picture! When I lived in Redding a quick weekend trip to Tahoe was just the ticket to get out of the sweltering heat, even if only for a few days. Also, a fun place to play in the snow come winter-time
Got home from work a bit ago, but needed to eat, and make beds, and fold laundry, and clean up the kitchen, and start supper. Here for a bit then off to the little guy’s karate class. I’m tired, and can’t figure out why
Yeah, I love Lake Tahoe. My grandparents lived there for 10 years or so: my sister and I would stay up there a few weeks each summer, and in the winters the whole family would go up skiing for a week or two…
hi all. back, at least briefly. ate. groceries done. back adjusted. still need to cook & deliver dinner to a friend who had surgery this morning.
this morning got a haircut, drove out to pick up Texteen Buddy, got gas, TexteenBuddy returned something to the guitar store …. I think that’s all.
larue you’re all set. i had to move one of the pix to the right side and it still looks funny, but all set for 6pm. Thanks and welcome back!
mm, “I’m tired, and can’t figure out why ”
Because you are not superwoman.
Can the madkiddies be taught to fold laundry and the older one, at least, make his own bed? It may not be how you would do it yourself, but it would be done. Learned that at a lecture about trying to be superwoman years ago.
And his idea to blow off the calls for his resignation is to compare himself to King David
My decision to make fish, rice and veggies for supper instead of pizza was a lot like some of Solomon’s harder judgments…
“So it makes me wonder if the guilty plea of Monica Conyers will get media coverage? Given that the MSM is in the tank for the Repugnants…. that will be a good test of bias. I don’t get why Monica would do this.”
She will not get much coverage. She probably did it for the money just as so many politicians do. Federal politicians have entirely too much control over vast sums of money. So much so, that even doubling their pay cannot keep them from temptation, therefore, we should take the money away from them and keep it local. We have more control over local politicians than we do over Federal ones.
The majority of the media is in bed with the Democrats. That is why Obama joked, “You all voted for me!” when addressing the press and in another joke said, “I was in bed, awake and worried over what to say so I rolled over and asked Brian Williams.” (a newscaster).
Fox News can be biased but no less so than other news media and frankly, the reason the news media has a First Amendment protection (along with religion) is because during the time of the creation of the Constitution, newspapers were NOT purveyors of unbiased fact. They were political communications owned by political parties. Samuel Adams is the most famous of these early newspaper men.
From Wikipedia on Samuel Adams…
“In January 1748, Adams and some friends, inflamed by British impressment, launched the Independent Advertiser, a weekly newspaper that printed many political essays written by Adams.”
Newspapers only became purveyors of unvarnished truth when they discovered during the Civil War that when they printed casualty numbers their sales rose considerably. That was when newspapers became a business venture and not simply a political rag.
The history remains though. Newspapers and by extension ALL MEDIA are purveyors of political opinion. They are allowed to lie even though their advertisers are not. As long as you realize that you can read, watch and listen with the same caution you would give a carnival barker.
