Pro Democracy For Iran Rally — Slideshow

Very peaceful rally. 100 degree heat, or even hotter. Hundreds of people singing, marching, chanting, listening to speakers, and bowing their heads for a minute of silence for those who were slain in Tehran. I’d guess that at least 80% of those in attendance were Iranian, and all were speaking out for peace and democracy. Most of the organizer were graduate students from the University of Texas.

As I was saying downstairs…
Home from the rally. It was hotter than the hammered down hinges of Hell. We had close to 300 people and lots of folks honking as they drove by.
I did not know it in advance, but we got to march down Congress Avenue to Sisth Street and back. Someone had a roll of green crepe paper streamer and it started at the front of the march and as people joined, it was passed backwards untill the whole thing was unwound. One long green ribbon that linked all of us together. We were escorted by motocycle police along the route and a cruiser at the back. The march was a block and a half long and one lane of traffic wide.
There was live music and some good poetry. Speakers, too. And chanting, of course.
I hope Betsy posts the pictures soon, I’m beat by the heat!
OK, that’s it for me. I think the heat may have fried my brain.
Sleep well Doodle.
Anyone else around?
yes. I’m glad there was a good turnout and that it was a peaceful and respectful rally and march.
I am looking at a genealogy file sent to my mom, who has no computer. I have no idea how to get this to her… I think I’ll have to save it to a small pocket drive and she can take it with her to the mormon library here in town. I wish I knew the names she’s looking for… way back when before there were rocks and trees!
I just got in. I floated the whole river with granddaughter #1! We went through the tube shoot twice, she had so much fun, after being scared of it.
Oh good Gnome! So glad she enjoyed it!
I’m still in wet bathing suit. I am going to take Bucky and Beulah out for a walk, so I may “fall” in the river again.
and now in youtube form —
And here is Bob Kincaid interviewing Benafseh Madaninejad (on my cell phone!) for the H.O.R.N. from the rally. Full show is here, and this begins at 42:00:00.
Citizen journalists, indeed. Although probably more as commentators rather than straight reporters.
Good job.
HOme from work, off to catch up!
Who is the lady in the green tank and khakis? She’s in several pictures, and is speaking to the crowd at one point.
Looks like a pretty good turn out for such a hot day, thanks for the pics and twittering Betsy and WDD!!! Wish I could have followed it as it was happening.
Madmom, she is one of the organizers. She’s the one Bob interviewed in comment #9. She doesn’t look 6 months pregnant, does she? She’s still thinner than I am!
So guess what I just had to do. De skunk a dog. Now I need to go de-skunk myself. That walk turned a lot more exciting than I was expecting.
@ gnome de plume:
Damn I’m glad you don’t have a smell scanner hooked up to your computer!
@ Texas Betsy:
That’s depressing! When I was six months pregnant I hadn’t seen my shoes in over a month
When I walked down the hall at work the doctors I worked for would make that “beep, beep” noise big trucks make when they back up
@ gnome de plume:
Is there a trick to it? A special shampoo? Mitzi’s never met up with a skunk, I’ve never even seen one down here. I did have a huge one sitting right outside my front door one day when I lived I Colorado. I was late for work because I didn’t want to go outside and have it spray me, and it was between me and my car!
Brought y’all some leftovers. Never mind the bite marks etc…
@ madmommy:
Yes, there is a trick – keep a de-skunking kit on hand. I have a BIG bottle of skunk shampoo, a deodorizing spray and special skunk toothpaste! Forget about tomato juice. That does not work. The house and dog will smell of skunk until everything dries. Then it won’t be so bad. Of course by then you get used to it . . .
@ gnome de plume:
I suppose it doesn’t help at all to tell the doggie “NO!! Bad skunk! Nasty smell!! Stay away!!!”
a belated 2nd coffee break
speaking of skunks … the dog (and his bro) in my saturday post LUUURRRVVVed them some skunks! We had many opportunities for learning the best way to de-skunk a dog. What ended working the best was the old hippie-era Herbal Essence Shampoo – remember that intense weedy smell? Shampoo liberally with Herbal Essence, rinse. Rub copious amounts of tomato juice into fur, rinse. Shampoo again with Herbal Essence, rinse. The dogs ended up smelling like little weed patches, but you could barely detect the skunk underneath. Although they’d bolt off immediately if not restrained in order to find something awful to roll in so’s they could get back to smelling like proper dogs

He learned that too late – after the skunk sprayed him in the face and he was running around trying to rub the sting off. He jumped in the river after that and chased ducks.
Good night bumz. Sleeping indoors in the air conditioning!
and gnome’s right, a lot of the time we skipped the tomato juice. The Herbal Essence did the trick every time!
And a big thanks to Betsy and Wangdang for braving the heat and live-blogging/tweeting the Austin event!
Hey farmgrrllll.
But before I go …..

Ugh! Never had to de-skunk a dog, and hopefully I never will! Mitzi’s not the sharpest tack in the box, and I believe if she ever met up with one she would try to make friends. With disastrous results
Ummm ….. beach bumz …. I needz a good night hug …. Or else I might be here all night!
You probably don’t want a hug from me, but I’ll send you good night wishes.
Time for bed, goodnight and pleasant, pain free sleep to all!
Last one out, and first one up…the story of my life
Heh. Morning, madmommy….
Morning bumz. Where’s the coffee?
Pellora upstairs.
