  1. madmommy says:

A couple of small victories today-Cam Newton got beat, and Juicebox Jeebus has turned in a so-far woeful performance in an epic beat down by the Lions.

  2. sharonlee says:

    @ madmommy:
The ending was ugly, but Lea’s team pulled through against the Patriots.

  3. madmommy says:

On one of the many sacks Timmy suffered today, the guy who sacked him then Tebowed him. I :lmao: and :rotfl: Wonder how big a fine that wanker Goodell will slap him with?

  4. one of my co-workers whom i have to tolerate, was sneering at “the liberal press attacking tebow, they don’t give him a chance.”

sure wish mm could show up at work with me to give him a good ol’ mm verbal bitch-slap. :rotfl:

  5. madmommy says:

    @ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
Just ask all sweet like “so, now that Tim had his head handed to him on a platter yesterday, you still think it’s the liberal press that is the problem?” Then when he starts to stammer and stutter, just smile and say “bless your heart, you just can’t help it, can you?” Then you walk away.

  6. Gnome de Plume says:

    :relax: I am exhausted! :chairnap:

And I have to unload the truck at 9:00 in the morning, over at Ms. Nasty’s warehouse.

  7. @ madmommy:

i’m sure he will have an answer supplied to him by rush limpballs, whom he listens to EVERY DAY on the way to work :twitch: :unhinged:

  8. madmommy says:

    @ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
I can’t say definitively, but I bet even Rushbo can’t defend the suckitude that is Tebow. Even Tony Dungy, the holiest coach evah, could not defend the suckitude that is Tebow.

    Let’s face it, Tebow sucks!

  9. @ madmommy:

heh, i bet even sweet baby jeebus wouldn’t defend the suckitude that is Tebow. He would forgive him, tell him to give up the sin of football and then say “go forth and suck no more.”

  10. Texas Betsy says:

Hi from # occupyaustin. About 100 people. heard half the general assembly.

  11. gordon says:

    @ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
Nah, just smile and say how sorry you are. Maybe mumble something about how good it is that minnesnowtans are tolerant to a fault. :rotfl:

  12. gnome de plume says:

:mangiamo: I made a terrific linguini with clam sauce dinner. :nom:

Poor Timmy. Why was he so wonderful at Florida but so bad in the NFL?

  13. sharonlee says:

    @ gordon:
And throw in a Tebowing.

  14. madmommy says:

    @ gnome de plume:
Because he played in a wishbone in college and they don’t use it in the NFL.

    @ gordon:
Or she could just say “Matthew 6:5. Look it up.”

  15. @ madmommy:

hahaha! i am so going to use that one!

  16. gnome de plume says:

    @ madmommy:
Oh. I get it. And he isn’t flexible enough to make the transition to other formations. Poor baby. What will become of him?

 I’m all done for the day. Looks like Cowboys are going to be beat purty bad. :|

    :bye: :exhausted:

  17. time for bed … i have my costume all assembled and ready to put on in order to be in at 7 am tomorrow :twitch:

i am going to be Cap’n Joe Sparrow, Jack’s little-known uncle. I already have a stash of eye-patches, so my daughter encouraged me to put the rest of the costume with it

  18. Sharonlee says:

Happy Halloween, all. I am wearing my pumpkin and spider sequin sweater as my costume.
Weather is great for the kids tonight. I probably will not be home to answer the phone.

NY niece is still without power. Barbara, I hope all is well in your part of the area. :)

  19. gnome de plume says:

Good “Morning” I am still recovering from my weekend exertions. :coffee: I need to get to work on the next phase, but a few hours of down time is OK, isn’t it?

I haven’t talked to GnomeBro, but from reports, he lives real close to the areas that got over two feet of snow in Mass. A crazy white Halloween. I remember it snowing a little in October, but nothing like this! There was an article in the Boston Globe about a guy having to dig out his cows. His little Scottish Highland calf was up to her nose in snow, and couldn’t move! She is very cute in the photo.

  20. Betsy says:

Sharonlee, your neighborhood trick-or-treat tykes do their candy begging by phone? :)

  21. gnome de plume says:

    @ Betsy:
 I wondered about that!

  22. Sharonlee says:

    @ Betsy:
That’s what happens when I post before I am awake. Door not phone.

  23. Barbara says:

Sharonlee: Everything is fine in our neck of the woods. We got less than a half inch of snow and they said there would be high winds. We missed them also. A good bit of rain. Yesterday (Sunday) it was close to fifty degrees. There is a little wind today but nice and sunny. Our electric company had less then five hundred people with out power. So i think we did pretty good.

  24. gordon says:

    @ gnome de plume:
Highlanders are very cute (and pretty small). There were a few just up the hill a couple years ago.

But even when there’s only a foot, cows make (and follow) paths through the snow. They are very, very cautious of deep snow.,

  25. Betsy says:

ya know, no Texan would ever use ” there’s only a foot” and “snow” in the same sentence. We may grow everything bigger in Texas, but not snow piles.

  26. gordon says:

@ Betsy: True. I believe longhorns are prone to fainting at the sight of frost.

  27. gnome de plume says:

 We’ve got lots of spooks and goblins and really cute lady bugs and things coming to our door tonight!

  28. Sharonlee says:

I am still laughing about the Lions sacker who was tebowing after the sacking yesterday. If he gets fined, I will protest.

  29. Betsy says:

Not a single trick or treater today and I even decorated my door!

    more or less!

  30. gnome de plume says:

    @ Sharonlee:
Is there a video or a photo of it? I would really like to see it. Poor Timmy.

  31. madmommy says:

Home from tricking and treating! The boys each got a bucket full of candy and it only took us an hour :yay: We went to a subdivision just up the road where there was gangs of rugrats roaming the streets and nearly every house had candy. The kind of neighborhood I wanted to move to, instead of out here with the inbreds and crazies  We’ve only been home about 20 minutes and the little guy is already zonked. He does not like to stay up past his bed time-the boy needs his 10 hours of sleep every night :rotfl:

  32. madmommy says:

Poor Timmy my foot! He’s been sacked more than 10 times in his last few starts!! Even Archie Manning got better protection when he played for the Saints back in the bag-head days

    Here’s the video:

  33. gnome de plume says:

    @ madmommy:
 I knew I would get a rise out of you with that comment.

  34. Betsy says:

How did we get all the way to 8:30 without having our annual candy corn debate?

And …. y’all know what tomorrow is, right?

  35. gnome de plume says:

    @ Betsy:
:lmao: I thought about the Candy Corn Problem yesterday when I bought myself a little bag of Candy Corn to :nom: :nom: :nom:

  36. madmommy says:

    @ Betsy:
Because it has already been determined that candy corn is the most awesomest Halloween candy evah!!!

Tomorrow is All Saints Day-you’re supposed to go to the cemetery and tidy up the tombs.

  37. Betsy says:

Tomorrow is when our youngest founding Bum turns 20!

Yes I feel ancient! Happened to be glancing through the comments from Halloween a few yrs ago (looking for a particular comment I wanted to share with one of my FB friends), and saw her whole angst in Halloween 2009 about how turning 18 was slightly better than the thought of dying, and how she planned to turn 18 on Sat, get married Sunday, join the military Monday and vote Tuesday. I had forgotten that bit of drama. It seems that I block these things out after a time.

  38. madmommy says:

    @ Betsy:
Wow, that is a big freaking deal! I remember that Halloween drama now that you bring it up. I’m sure she’ll be thrilled that you remembered

  39. Betsy says:

And if Cassie turns 20, that means Ava Lowery (former 12 yr old Quaker peace activist) has just turned 21!

  40. sharonlee says:

Do we need to invite her to the party? :birthdayhat:

  41. Betsy says:

Hell, I think we should just celebrate the fact that she got to 20 with no wedding ring, no kids, and no army enlistments.

  42. gnome de plume says:

You prolly ought to remind her of it next time life turns terrible on her, since it looks like she made through these past two years just fine.

I am working on my auction sheets for tomorrow night. I was just about to throw a :tantrum: because Gus was hanging all over me, but he got hungry and wandered over to the feed bowl.

  43. Betsy says:

We got two trick-or-treaters! The little Korean girls next door. Surprised I didn’t see the family who lives behind me, but they probably went to a real neighborhood.

  44. g’evening, Bumz! I LOVE HALLOWEEN! we moved to a great neighborhood for halloween. lots of kids, lots of the grown-ups handing out candy wearing elaborate costumes, me included. And this year we had enough candy, barely.

Being the compulsive Virgo i am, i kept count (probably missed a dozen or so) and had 173 kids. Great fun! Great costumes! my fave of the evening was the twin preschoolers in little lady bug costumes. so CUTE!

  45. Betsy says:

I’m crashing. PT took all my energy today.

Can someone stay up and post a grown-up birthday cake in about an hour? We’ll save adult-only birthday cake one more year.

  46. gnome de plume says:

    @ newdealfarmgrrrlll:
I had an adorable lady bug, too. I didn’t know we had such little ones in the neighborhood. They must have been grandchildren.!

  47. gnome de plume says:

    @ Betsy:
I’m not going to make it either. I am wdaiting for a printner to install on my laptop, then I am goinag to :exhausted:
:fume: and now Gus is climbing on me again, with his claws out.

  48. sharonlee says:

Consider this a magnificent cake in honor of Cassie’s 20th birthday. Happy Birthday, no longer a teen. :happybirthday:

  49. Gnome de Plume says:

Good Morning and Happy Birthday to the youngest Bum! :birthdayparty: :happybirthday:

I’m up to my ears in computer issues this morning. Or actually, printer issues, trying to get my auction sheets prepared for this evening’s orchid auction. Then maybe I can rest. :relax:

  50. Gnome de Plume says:

    :tantrum: Downloads not working! :tantrum:

I’m sitting here with two computers on my desk, each with different softwares, trying to create documents. :fume:

  51. Sharonlee says:

    @ Gnome de Plume:
You are trying to make it complicated. Take a breath, go get some coffee and try again later.

  52. Gnome de Plume says:

    @ Sharonlee:
I was actually trying to simplify by allowing the computer that creates the sheets to be able to print them in color. Right now it is only connected to the computer that prints in black and white. While waiting to get the color printer driver loaded onto my laptop, I went ahead and sent the document over to the desktop, which does not have the same Word processing software (which is part of the problem) :fume: and I successfully translated it and printed it. I am still trying to install the other printer on the laptop, seemingly to no avail. :headdesk: :headdesk:

  53. Sharonlee says:

    @ Gnome de Plume:
Sounds as if you have this one done but for the future can you create a pdf from the wordprocessing document? Once in pdf, should go anywhere.
Have fun at the auction. :)

  54. Gnome de Plume says:

    @ Sharonlee:
Yep. I essentially did that. I just finished listing all my items, so now I am good to go, as long as my ink holds out. :fingerscrossed:

  55. Sharonlee says:

    Gnome de Plume wrote:

I am still trying to install the other printer on the laptop, seemingly to no avail.

    Are the operating systems compatible?

  56. Betsy says:

    Hi honeys I’m home!

My tutoring student canceled, so I did a double exercise session, spent an hour at the “other” synagogue borrowing the copy machine and the printer and the die-cut-machine, grocery shopping, and replacing the laptop fan that broke last week. Have a student at 7 and relaxing online in bed until then. New fan is perfect but louder than the old one was.

  57. Betsy says:

My simple one-button scanner is completely incompatible with both Windows 7 and Mac OS Lion. It’s basically just a paperweight now, which is a damn shame because it’s a great little scanner and portable even by me!

  58. Sharonlee says:

    @ Betsy:
You might check to see if there are any plans to update a driver.

I am off to find a new cord for charging my cell phone. This one just died the other day. Luckily I can charge it in my car for short-term.

And my watch died this morning. I figure that’s just battery so need to locate a jeweler convenient to my office.

  59. Betsy says:

What kind of phone? I buy a few at a time from this company. I’ve gotten all kinds of phone/ipod accessories from them. Takes a week, but reasonable quality.

I have a coupon for 20% off and free shipping if you’re interested.

  60. Betsy says:

My “difficult” Tuesday evening student actually studied! At home! With the Hebrew and the CD at the same time!

  61. sharonlee says:

    @ Betsy:
    Sometimes they can surprise you.

  62. gnome de plume says:

 I’m home! Auction all over! Now I can get back to regular stuff. Except for counting the money and depositing it.

I have a feeling my back is going to be hurting me tonight when I try to sleep. :(

  63. gnome de plume says:

 All quiet at the beach house, so I think I will go to bed. Wish my back luck. :fingerscrossed:

  64. Sharonlee says:

58 and cloudy. Rain coming in with some mention of possible flakes overnight. If my mom’s old legends are true, it will mean either 2 or 3 snow storms this winter (depending if it happens before or after midnight). Day of snow determines the number of storms.

  65. Betsy says:

    Good morning all.

Texteen and GF as James & Jessie (Team Rocket)

  66. madmommy says:

    @ Betsy:
Who was their evil little sidekick Meowth??

It is November 2 and I am officially over Christmas :unhinged:

  67. newdealfarmgrrrlll says:

    @ Betsy:

i agree with mm … where’s Meowth? (cute costumes! i see tex teen even has a poke ball ready to catch those pokemon!)

  68. sharonlee says:

Today 11/2/11 is a pallindrome, according to one of my nephews. A number (or word) that is the same either way.

Temperature has really dropped and we are having a cold rain. Luckily not a snow temperature because the rain would transfer to inches of snow. The drop in temperature affected my tire pressure and the warning light was on when I got out of the dentist office. I found an auto shop still open to air them up. I miss full-service gas stations.

  69. gordon says:

    @ sharonlee:
Cool! I hadn’t noticed that. It’s also acceptably pallindromic when formatted as 11/02/2011 (even as 2011/11/02, which as a programmer is what I’d do, because it sorts correctly).

  70. Betsy says:

    hi honeys i’m home.

    i even cooked dinner.

who wants a hebrew class of 7th graders? cheap? son of clergy member insists on singing prayers in falsetto. his best friend has a trombone in his hands in class. puts it away but keeps the mouthpiece. when i finally get him to put that away, he whistles. continually. Only two of the eight pay attention at all.

  71. gnome de plume says:

    @ Betsy:
    :headdesk: :headhurts:

I had a lovely dinner with my parents. Baked acorn squash stuffed with apples and pecans. :nom: Now I am nibbling on candy corn.

Sharonlee, that cold weather is supposed to come through here tonight. We might get a little rain with it. :fingerscrossed:

  72. gordon says:

    gnome de plume wrote:

Baked acorn squash stuffed with apples and pecans.

Interesting. How were the acorns cut?

  73. gnome de plume says:

    @ gordon:
Across the stems so that the halves are mirror images. Unless you thought I said Acorns, like the nuts that fall from the tree, rather than Acorn Squash, and were trying to be funny.

  74. gnome de plume says:

Geeze Louise! I hadn’t seen any clips of the Rick Perry speech from the weekend where everyone wondered whether he was drunk or stoned. Until now. Psycho! :unhinged:

  75. gordon says:

    @ gnome de plume:
Not at all. So the apple / pecan baked underneath the acorns (except for a final browning)? (I’m thinking onion / ground lamb / rosemary in with stuffing would make it into a real meal. )

  76. gnome de plume says:

    @ gordon:
Oh yes. She cooked the squash in the microwave (because a cake was in the oven) and the stuffing was cooked on the stove top, and then put together. I do something similar and make a “real meal” out of it using sausage, nuts, dried fruits and apples. :nom: :nom: :nom:

  77. madmommy says:

    @ Betsy:
They’re going to feel pretty silly at Bar/Bat Mitzvah time when they can’t do the reading in front of all those people. Unless their parents are the sort who blame the teacher because their precious little snowflake is an ill-behaved clod, lacking both manners and sense.

  78. sharonlee says:

    @ gnome de plume:
Sustainable design practices ==K-State was ranked #1

Storm knocked out my cable and Internet for a while. Now back up and running.

MM, did the little guy have a good time at the birthday party?

Betsy, take away the mouth piece. Hold it until after the class and then consider returning it when he explains to his parents why you have it.

  79. madmommy says:

    @ sharonlee:
He had a great time, but that is because she is his best friend. Not girlfriend :rotfl: He was quite proud of himself today-he has learned multiplication. He can do multiples of 2 and some of 11. It takes him a minute to come up with the answer because he is counting by 2′s on his fingers. But at least he is doing math, and getting the right answer!! Now if we can just get the handwriting/grammar up to snuff

The big kid had geometry homework tonight. I am so screwed. I hope I helped him get the right answers :fingerscrossed:

  80. gnome de plume says:

 Architect is listed as one of the Most Over-rated Careers! (But so is physician and surgeon – it is about the stress and work/life balance.)

I think the front is nearing. We are getting some pretty good wind gusts, and all the cats have come in.

  81. sharonlee says:

    madmommy wrote:

The big kid had geometry homework tonight. I am so screwed. I hope I helped him get the right answers :fingerscrossed:

Get the textbook and read a chapter or 2 ahead. Does he have to remember a lot of theorems? I made it through plain geometry okay. It was solid geometry when the lines got up off the page that did me in.

  82. gnome de plume says:

    @ sharonlee:
It was theory that got me, as well as theorums. Once I understood the application to the real world, I got it! Then I could go back and figure out what they were trying to teach me through the dry theoretical way.

    @ madmommy:
Can Madhubby be of help? I would imagine being mechanical and good with his hands, he doesn’t do homework well.

  83. Betsy says:

I HAVE GREAT ONLINE MATH EXPLANATIONS FOR PARENTS. TOMORROW.

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  84. Betsy says:

OK, who has a phone that can read QR codes?

  85. Sharonlee says:

    @ Betsy:
Mine doesn’t even link to the Internet. Last century.

  86. gnome de plume says:

    @ Betsy:
Supposedly mine does, but I don’t know how to do it.

  87. Betsy says:

Ok, it brings you straight to relaxed politics. not sure what to do with it, but Texteen was playing with the program last night and showed me how to make one.

FYI, Cassie texted me that she is working on a post for us for tonight.

  88. Hi Beach bumz.

Disturbing post upstairs. Feel free to go off topic or post a new topic, but I needed to write about this to face my own demons. Read and move on.

  89. I need internet uncles too!
